MACROwall: Eighties Are Back! is a project that aims to review and explore Italian art of the Eighties through a series of solo exhibitions of ten artists representing the different types of research that have shaped the artistic production of the decade. Each artist is given the opportunity to exhibit two paintings on a wall, an old and a recent work, to invite the public to rediscover the specific qualities of his/her artistic research in recent years. The works come with a caption written by art critics of different generations: the younger critic describes the older work and vice versa.
The first artist of MACROwall: Eighties Are Back! is Alfredo Pirri. His works are the result of the happy meeting of figuration and abstraction, reality and fiction: elements which alternate and overlap with one another to achieve artistic expression, pursuing the idea of pure form. In the works on display at MACRO, minimalism turns into a research on the relationship between subject, colour and light: the light that affects the space, creating and modifying colours.
